RODMAN 900 FLYBRIDGE – 2002

The Rodman 900 Flybridge is a compact and practically designed motor cruiser offering two helm stations, two cabins and a spacious aft cockpit. This Evasion III was built in 2002 by the Spanish shipyard Rodman Polyships S.A. and is CE certified in Category B.

Rodman has extensive experience in the construction of both recreational and professional vessels. This background is also reflected in the older Rodman motor yachts, where functionality, solid GRP construction and good sea-going characteristics were key elements of the design. The Rodman 900 combines these qualities with dimensions that keep the boat relatively easy to handle.

ENGINE AND PERFORMANCE

Evasion III is powered by two Volvo Penta KAMD300-A six-cylinder diesel engines from 2002, each producing 285 hp, for a combined output of 570 hp. Both engines are coupled to conventional shaft drives and feature indirect cooling. According to the inventory, the engines have approximately 1,400 running hours; the LCD display of the hour meter is defective.

The 3.6-litre KAMD300-A uses a combination of a mechanical supercharger and turbocharger. The supercharger assists the engine at lower rpm, with the turbocharger taking over most of the boost at higher engine speeds.

With this engine configuration, a comfortable cruising speed is around 20 to 22 knots. Rodman 900s fitted with twin KAMD300 engines are reported to achieve maximum speeds in the region of 26 to 30 knots, depending on load, hull condition, propellers and sea conditions.

The combination of twin diesel engines and two separate shaft drives suits the character of the boat well and makes her suitable for both coastal cruising and longer passages.

ACCOMMODATION

With a length of 9.00 metres and a beam of 3.30 metres, the Rodman 900 offers a considerable amount of usable space for her dimensions. There are two complete helm positions: a protected lower helm station in the saloon and a second helm station on the flybridge.

The interior comprises a saloon with seating and dining area, a galley, two separate cabins and a heads compartment with manual toilet. There are four permanent berths, with the possibility of creating two additional berths. Interior headroom is approximately 1.95 metres.

The galley is equipped with a gas cooker, an approximately 80-litre electric refrigerator and a small freezer compartment. An Eberspächer Airtronic warm-air heating system makes the boat comfortable to use outside the summer season as well.

The fresh-water capacity is 190 litres. Hot water can be produced using either 230 V shore power or engine heat. An outside shower is fitted at the stern.

COCKPIT, DECK AND FLYBRIDGE

The spacious open aft cockpit is an important part of the practical character of the Rodman 900. It provides ample space for relaxing outside and is equally well suited to sport fishing.

At the stern there is a bathing platform with swimming ladder and outside shower. The boat is also equipped with guardrails and an electric anchor windlass, with the anchor connected to chain and rope.

The flybridge provides a second fully equipped helm position with excellent all-round visibility. In less favourable weather conditions, the boat can be operated from the protected lower helm station.

NAVIGATION AND ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

The navigation equipment includes a Furuno radar, Garmin GPSMAP 185 Sounder with depth sounder/fishfinder, Simrad AP12 autopilot, Plastimo compass, rudder angle indicator and navigation lights. A Seacom M168F VHF radio is also installed.

The electrical system operates on 12 V and 230 V. The installation includes three batteries, a shore-power connection with cable, a Mastervolt Mass 25 A battery charger and alternators on both engines.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

The boat is equipped with a 550-litre stainless-steel diesel tank and a 190-litre fresh-water tank. The stated displacement is approximately 5,500 kg.

According to the inventory, the principal dimensions are 9.00 m overall length, 7.90 m waterline length, 3.30 m beam and 0.70 m draught. The stated air draught is 4.10 m, while interior headroom is approximately 1.95 m.

The Rodman 900 Flybridge therefore combines, within relatively compact dimensions, two six-cylinder diesel engines with shaft drives, two helm stations, two cabins, a spacious aft cockpit and sufficient accommodation for extended stays on board. It is a functionally designed motor cruiser with a clear emphasis on practical use and good sea-going characteristics.
