Nautor Swan 38 “LEDA” – 1978 – Hull #110

This Nautor Swan 38, designed by Sparkman & Stephens and built by Nautor in Finland, is a particularly well-maintained example of this classic performance-cruising sailboat. LEDA is hull number 110, built in 1978 and equipped with the Tall Rig (IOR Mk III).

The boat is in excellent condition and has undergone thorough and targeted maintenance in recent years. Investments were made not only to preserve the classic Swan character but also to upgrade the deck equipment, electronics, and a comprehensive sail set. Furthermore, LEDA is stored indoors in a boathouse every winter, which clearly contributes to her well-maintained overall condition. The boat is moored in Zeebrugge and is available immediately.

Hull, Deck, and Equipment

The Swan 38 combines the characteristic lines of Sparkman & Stephens with a solid Nautor construction. With a length of 11.66 m, a beam of 3.52 m, a waterline of 8.75 m, and a draft of 2.00 m, this is a sailing yacht designed for both longer voyages and sport sailing.

The hull was treated with five layers of Primocon in 2023 and, according to the owner, is free of osmosis. Nautix A4T Speed is used as antifouling. The teak deck dates from 2012.

The deck hardware has been significantly updated in recent years. In 2023, the following were installed, among other items: four Harken Radial 40.2ST and two Harken Radial 50.2ST self-tailing winches, Spinlock stoppers, Dyneema halyards and sheets, and a racing helm. In addition to the original wheel steering, LEDA is equipped with a carbon racing tiller with a joystick.

Also present are a Sparcraft aluminum boom—50 cm longer than the original boom—with a heavy-duty gooseneck from 2023, a Sparcraft vang, two carbon spinnaker poles, and a carbon jockey pole. The original boom and racing pulpit have also been retained.

Rigging and Sails

LEDA is equipped with the Tall Rig IOR Mk III and rod rigging, including an R&K Hydra-Tensioner Mk2. The specified standard sail area is approximately 63.8 m².

The sail wardrobe is exceptionally extensive and includes, among other things, a carbon mainsail from 2023, a Dacron mainsail from 2025, and a second Dacron mainsail from 2012. For the headsails, there is a carbon 130% genoa from 2023, a carbon high-aspect 100% jib from 2025, and a laminated high-aspect jib from 2019.

For broad reaches, there is a symmetrical spinnaker from 2023 and an asymmetrical spinnaker from 2019. In addition, there is a Dacron storm jib, a fluorescent storm jib, a storm mainsail, and various older sails. The newer sails are from Wittevrongel.

Engine and Mechanics

Propulsion is provided by a Nanni 4.150 four-cylinder diesel engine producing 37 pk, coupled to a 3-blade Max-Prop propeller. The engine has approximately 3,940 operating hours and is indirectly cooled. The reverse gear was replaced in 2024.

The electrical system consists of three gel service batteries with a combined capacity of 330 Ah and a separate 90 Ah starter battery. Charging is handled, among other things, by a 75 A Mastervolt Chargemaster Plus 12/75-3 from 2023. The engine alternator delivers 60 A. There is both a 12 V and a 220 V electrical system with a shore power connection.

The fuel tank has a capacity of approximately 110 liters, and the stainless steel drinking water tank holds approximately 310 liters.

Navigation and Electronics

The navigation equipment has also been significantly modernized. Onboard equipment includes a B&G Zeus Touch chartplotter, three Garmin GMI20 displays from 2023, a B&G WS310 wind sensor from 2024, Garmin SteadyCast, and a Raymarine Autohelm/Lewmar autopilot.

For communication and safety, LEDA is equipped with a Raymarine AIS700 AIS transponder from 2023, a Garmin 315i VHF with speaker from 2024, and a portable Icom IC-M25 VHF.

Interior

Inside, the classic Nautor interior has been carefully preserved. The warm woodwork is characteristic of Swan yachts from this period and underwent an extensive refit in 2024–2025 with six coats of two-component varnish.

The layout features two cabins and accommodates up to eight people, with four permanent berths and four additional sleeping berths. A cruising bed and racing folding berths are available in the bow. Additionally, the yacht is equipped with both comfortable Alcantara cruising cushions and water-resistant Vegonyl racing cushions.

The galley features a 3-burner gas stove with an oven and an Isostar refrigerator. It also has hot water, an Airtronic diesel heater, and a Jabsco toilet that was replaced in 2025.

Safety and Other Equipment

Safety equipment includes, among other things, a Transocean ISO 6-person liferaft from 2023, a Kannad EPIRB, a Plastimo inflatable horseshoe buoy, a Plastimo IOR inflatable dan buoy, and a Marine Pool rescue sling.

For the bilge system, there are two electric Whale pumps and two manual Whale pumps from 2023, supplemented by a heavy-duty Whale emergency pump.

For anchoring, LEDA is equipped with a Spade main anchor with 70 meters of chain and a second sand anchor with a weighted line and 5 meters of stainless steel chain. A winter cover for the boom and guardrail and a summer cover are also included in the inventory.

This makes LEDA an exceptionally well-equipped Swan 38 that combines her original character with a large number of recent technical and sailing-related upgrades. The combination of her Tall Rig, extensive sail set, and racing equipment allows for sporty use, while the classic Nautor interior and cruising equipment also make her suitable for longer stays on board.

The boat is stored indoors every winter, is in excellent condition, and is available immediately in Zeebrugge.
